Instalasi Java Di Linux

1.Download JDK atau Java Development Kid (bukan JRE) di java.com. Maka kita akan mendapatkan file berekstensi bin (*.bin), misalnya jdk-6u5-linux-i586.bin dan letakkan file di direktori tertentu, misal home direktori.

2.Jalankan terminal/konsole (untuk linux ubuntu ada di menu “Application-Accessories-Terminal”) sebagai root, dan buat folder dengan nama “java” di “/usr/share/” dengan perintah
$ su
# mkdir -p /usr/share/java

3.Masuk ke direktori file dowload java, misal: home direktori, copy file binari java ke dalam folder yang telah kita buat tadi, dengan perintah:
# cp jdk-6u5-linux-i586.bin /usr/share/java

4.Sekarang kita masuk ke direktori “/usr/share/java” dan kita akan mulai proses instalasi, tapi sebelumnya ubah permision program dengan chmod :
# cd /usr/share/java
# chmod 777 *.*
# ./jdk-6u5-linux-i586.bin

5.Lalu akan muncul user agreement, tekan enter hingga text berakhir, lalu akan muncul pertanyaan, jawab dengan mengetikkan “yes”
# yes

6.Tunggu beberapa saat, maka java telah terinstal di komputer Anda. Ada juga dapat menghapus file installer agar menghemat resource hardisk dengan perintah:
# rm /usr/share/java/*.bin

Setting PATH Java di Linux

1.Jalankan terminal/konsole (untuk linux ubuntu ada di menu “Application-Accessories-Terminal”) sebagai root lalu buka file “profile” yang terdapat di direktori “/etc”dengan editor teks seperti vi atau nano. Misalkan penulis menggunakan editor nano, maka tuliskan perintah:
$ su
# nano /etc/profile

2.Kemudian tampak isi file /etc/profile. Tambahkan dua baris di bawah dengan perintah
PATH=/usr/share/java/jdk1.6.0_05/bin:$PATH
export PATH

3.Simpan dengan menekan kombinasi tombol Ctrl dan O, lalu exit dengan kombinasi tombol Ctrl dan X.

4.Sekarang log out dari linux dengan menekan tombol Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. Lalu masukkan username dan password.

5.Kembali jalankan terminal/konsole, kita akan mengecek apakah java telah disetting path dengan benar dengan mengetikkan
$ java -version

java version “1.6.0_05″
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_05-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 10.0-b19, mixed mode)

6.Jika muncul tulisan cetak miring di atas, maka java sudah dapat digunakan.

7.Untuk menggunakan compiler java anda cukup menuliskan “javac<spasi>nama_file.java”.
$ javac test.java
Untuk menjalankannya, cukup ketikkan “java<spasi>nama_file” tanpa ekstensi .java.
$ java test
